WTF News — An Unfiltered Opinion Piece Based on Reporting from the New Yorker
⚠️ DISCLAIMER: This blog is 100% opinionated and SOLELY based on this article from The New Yorker. If you’re easily offended or looking for sugar-coated nonsense, this ain’t it.
Let’s call it what it is — President Trump’s second term is shaping up like the revenge fantasy of a man who didn’t get his way the first time and now wants to smash all the toys in the room.
According to The New Yorker’s Trump’s Do-Over Presidency, we’re not witnessing the rebirth of a strategic statesman. We’re watching the return of a political force hellbent on undoing every perceived slight, rewriting history, and flexing executive power like a kid who found the “cheat codes” in a video game.
One move that caught my eye was Trump diverting water meant for summer farming to fight raging wildfires. I get it — crops matter — but letting people die to preserve summer irrigation plans? That’s insane. Prioritizing immediate human life over seasonal agriculture isn’t political, it’s logical. But logic, it seems, is in short supply when everything becomes a battle of ego.
One of the most WTF elements of the entire article is Trump’s apparent desire to sic the Justice Department on individuals who pissed him off during his first term. That’s not just petty — it’s straight-up authoritarian. It’s a complete abuse of power and a gross misallocation of government resources. Investigations should be about justice, not vengeance.
Now listen — I may not agree with everything Trump says (in fact, I rarely do), but one thing I will always respect is someone who speaks their mind unapologetically. Not this scripted, polished garbage we get from most politicians — but raw, unfiltered, and sometimes uncomfortable truth. That doesn’t mean I agree with them. It means I value honesty over polished deceit.
One thing the article highlights is Trump’s willingness to show up for coal miners despite the backlash. Standing up for the working class — especially when it’s unpopular — takes guts. Whether you agree with coal mining or not, there’s something respectable about backing your people when it’s not politically convenient.
Okay — here comes my bias. I fully support the idea of a U.S. military parade. Our armed forces sacrifice everything so we can sit behind keyboards and bitch about politics. Honoring them in a public, celebratory way should be non-negotiable.
For Gen. Paul Selva to say, “That’s what dictators do” — give me a break. A dictator hijacks parades to glorify themselves. What Trump proposed was a celebration of the military, not himself. If it ever becomes a one-man Trump love fest, yeah, we will have a completely different conversation. But honoring soldiers? That’s a fucking win in my book.
Let me be clear: If someone is willing to sign on the dotted line and die for this country, their gender identity shouldn’t be a damn barrier. Trans, gay, straight, whatever — if you’ve got the courage to wear the uniform, you deserve the right to serve. Unless someone poses an active threat to themselves or their fellow soldiers, let them in.
Banning journalists from the White House? Unless they’re truly spewing fake garbage, that’s just weak. You can’t claim to be a champion of free speech and then slam the door on anyone who challenges your narrative. This move reeks of insecurity — the political equivalent of plugging your ears and yelling, “LALALA!”
When I first heard Trump wanted to buy Greenland, I thought it was bold, maybe even genius. But according to the article, this wasn’t about expansion or economic potential — it looked more like a military power grab. If that’s the case? Count me out. We don’t need to be the global bully. If Greenland is interested in joining forces voluntarily, great. If not — back off.
Trump’s second term is shaping up to be just as chaotic, divisive, and explosive as the first — maybe more. He’s doubling down on everything that made him loved by some and hated by others.
This blog isn’t about picking sides. It’s about calling out the bullshit where we see it — and giving credit where it’s due. That’s Unleashed & Uncensored.
